Is semi-permanent eyeliner embroidery like conventional tattoo?

First of all, it’s worth noting that the permanent eyeliner is not permanent (we will talk more on that later). It is just the term which the industry uses; it’s semi-permanent actually. With that in mind, because the micro-pigment will stay in the skin forever, therefore it is view as permanent. However, the life span of colour and visibility will fade over time. All things considered, the procedure is different from tattooing because micro-pigment gets deposited in the outer most layer of the skin.

To explain it further, tattoo ink used for body tattooing also has a different formula as compared to cosmetic ink. In the first place, the ink used for body tattooing usually contains more metals hence allowing them to go deeper into the skin and giving them the permanent effect.

There are reasons to be careful.

As a matter of fact, apart from the difference in pigments and methods, the preparation work is like any tattoo. Thus it carries the same risks and issues as a regular body tattoo.

In general for safety, clients need to stop taking any blood thinners five days before, even stuff like aspirin as well as fish oils and some vitamins, to prevent any possible bleeding that normally doesn’t happen.

At the same time, if clients want any Botox or treatments around the eye area, they should do so before eyeliner embroidery. In addition, they should also ensure it fully recovered for at least two weeks.

Also, if you’re pregnant or nursing, diabetic or having illnesses that affect the immune system as well as wound healing, you are discouraged from doing eyeliner.

Consequently, if you are now under medication, its better to talk to your doctor about it before you start off. For example, if you use Accutane (or other retinoids), you need to stop the drug for at least six months before you start off with any eyebrow, eyeliner or lip embroidery. (Accutane may hamper with wound healing, even if it may not always be the case.)

Removal of eyelash extensions is required.

First thing to remember, do get your eyelash extension removed at least one week before your eyeliner embroidery to ensure any remaining lash adhesives along the lash line do not damage the micro-pigments.

Another key point is to take out your contact lens. In fact, remove your contact lens before your eyeliner embroidery and be prepared not to put them on over the next few days as your eyes may be sensitive and swollen.

There are a variety of styles available.

To point out, there are usually three types of eyeliner embroidery styles.

The first type which is the most natural-looking is known as the inner eyeliner where micro-pigments deposited between layers of your eyelashes resulting in your lash line becoming darken.

The second type is the classic eyeliner where micro-pigments deposited above your lash line (imagine how you will draw your eyeliner usually) and is very popular amongst women looking for that makeup look without the hassle of applying it daily.

The third type is the luminous or soft shadow eyeliner. Like classic eyeliner, micro-pigments are deposited above your lash line but it differs from classic eyeliner in that it creates a mysterious coupled with shadowy look on the upper eyelids and slowly fades towards the wing. Powdery shades together with pigmentation combined create this unique effect. This particular style of eyeliner requires tiny and precise micro-pigmentation and not to mention, a steady pair of hands.

Here at JPro Beauty, our artist will discuss with our clients to decide the size and shape and design the eyeliner according to the client’s facial feature.

How long does it take?

As a matter of fact, it depends on what design the client wants. If the client prefers wing or cat eye designs on average, it takes around two to three hours, including design and applying of local numb cream.

Does it hurt?

With the application of local numb cream, once the effect of the cream kicks in, in due time the whole procedure will be painless.

However, every individual’s tolerance for pain is different. Therefore some people might still find the procedure to have some slight discomfort.

How is the healing process like?

Healing  as a matter of fact will take around one to two weeks.

  • Wear sunglasses to avoid direct sun-light as the eyes will be sensitive and swollen
  • When the eyes are sore, you can use eye drops
  • Eye drops can also be used to clean and moist the eye area
  • Apply 3-5 times a thin layer of soothing cream each day
  • This helps to avoid wound infection as well as to allow better absorption of colours
  • Also, let your eyes to rest over the next few days as the area will be sensitive
  • Please consult a doctor if pain and swelling do not subside after 36hours
  • To maintain your eyeliner, we strongly advise you to return every 12 months for touch-ups
  • DO NOT touch the treatment area to avoid scarring or removal of micro-pigments
  • Ensure no eye makeups, including eye shadow and eyeliner, fake eyelashes, eyelash extension, lash lifting, tinting and contact lenses one week
  • Refrain from driving during the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid swimming or engage in outdoor activities for one week
  • Please allow time for the coloured micro-pigments to settle into your skin.
  • Therefore touch-ups can only be done 6 – 8 weeks after the first session.

Our eyeliner embroidery looks best for about one year. Meanwhile, depending on how well the micro-pigments retains, it can even last two to three years. After that, the micro-pigments will then gradually fade and becomes invisible.
